Retired Flight Attendants Lead a Fulfilling Career

Geraldine Johnson is a retired Eastern Airlines flight attendant.

“Okay, I’ll go to Jerry,” Johnson said, recalling the precious memories of a long and fulfilling career.

“When I was flying, I never sat in the jump seat for landing and take off. I always sat with a passenger because I just liked to meet people, “he added.

Johnson’s husband was a pilot, and for Jerry, life with Eastern was a dream.

“Everything was fine. Nothing was ever a job. I couldn’t wait to stay there, do it,” Johnson said.

A dream that he recently resurrected with another trip to the galley.

“Oh, it was fun, it was fun – because I like being on a plane,” Johnson said.

A day at the Delta Flight Museum and another opportunity to walk in the cabin. The opportunity was granted by Hartis Senior Living Center’s “Living the Dream” program. Their goal for the day was to honor Johnson and many other residents with their aviation past.

“As we went on tour, we were able to take them on a plane where Gary and I were able to do a safety demo for his friends,” said Delta Air Lines flight attendant Dakota Hunter.

It was a wish Delta Flight Attendant was happy to help Hunter meet.

“It was great, really remembering Jerry’s time as a flight attendant and watching him get back in tune. He didn’t miss a beat, even retired for so many years,” Hunter said.

In his 80s, Jerry started flying at the age of 21 and will play many roles in Eastern Air Lines over the years.

“Then, when you got married, you could no longer fly; I got married in ’55 then I went to the ticket counter,” Johnson said.

After retiring, Jerry even volunteered his time as a tour guide. But it was on a plane that he liked the most.

“It was like having people in my house! It was wonderful এবং and I think I paid for it! I would love to do something like that, I can’t wait to be there every day. I definitely miss it, “said Johnson.

Hunter gave a gift to his new friend. A bag, a scarf, and the signature red lipstick Johnson still wears to breakfast every morning.

“Once a flight attendant, you are always a flight attendant no matter what you do. And it reflects me – maybe one day when I retire, I can come back and still remember that I was in the air like him, “said Hunter.
